World War I - US - Washington - Photo shows a section of the largest file room in the world, showing Captain W.E. Chickering, officer in charge, and Harvey Gram, at right, Chief Clerk. This is the Tennessee Division of the Selective Service Division of the Adjutant General's office. In the files of this division are 24,000,000 names of men registered under the provisions of the Selective Service Act. These were recorded by 4648 draft boards, and 120,000 files are used to hold the records. Seven building at the Washington barracks contain only these records, which are written on enough paper to cover six sections of land Photo measures 10 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 07-23-1926.
