Description: Art in America 1600-1865 Illustrated Guide For A National Radio Broadcast from February 3-May 1934 Initiated by he General Federation of Women's Clubs Under the Auspices of the American Federation of Arts with the Cooperation of The Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art ,The Museum of Modern Art , The National Advisory Council on Radio in Education, The National Broadcasting Company. University of Chicago Press Chicago Illinois. 1934. Broadcast over Station WJZ and a Coast to Coast Network. Forward by F.A. Whiting, President The American Federation of Arts. The main text appears to be by Harold Stark. Many B&W photos of paintings with full color plates at the end. 48 pages plus 8 color plates. The color plates and the last page have a 1" tear at the bottom that just gets to the plate. The very last 2 plates also has tears and a crease at the bottom, again not really interfering with the image. Te final one is a beautiful piece by George Inness. There are quite a few portrait paintings as well as landscapes and some views of early American buildings and interiors. 12 1/2" x 9 1/2". I would think this may be of interest to those looking at the history of criticism of Art in this early period where Modernism is just getting traction. I was surprised there was no mention of Washington Allston (at least not when I skimmed it) but most of the artwork is pretty Eurocentric. Condition is fair with wear to the front cover, back cover missing. I mentioned the tears. I found no online listings of this book. Buyer pays cost of Media Mail with adequate support. International buyers welcome. I pack carefully and use recycled materials when possible. I would be happy to answer any questions or send more photos. Returns are allowed if my description wasn't accurate. Seller pays return shipping.
