The painting shows the Virgin Mary experiencing deep grief. Her head is inclined to the right, with her hands crossed over her chest as a sign of her sorrow. She is dressed in a white robe with a rosary tied around her waist, and she wears a flowing blue mantle with embroidered edges. An elaborate halo encircles her head, adorned with jewels and golden rays.
