Antique 19thC George Jones Porcelain Pate sur Pate Vase Porzellan English Birds

Description: For sale is a really nice vase made by George Jones in England in the late 19th century . Typical shape for this maker the flatten ovoid form does have a rare design to it in the difficult and superb pâte-sur-pâte technique. Pate-sur-pate pieces are highly sought after! Here we have a nicely shaped olive green ground vase with a right handle to either side painted in gilding. A nice pate sur pate design around the neck of the vase with a stunning pate-sur-pate design to the front of a bid feeding its young in a nest above the water. Iris flowers to the left side and reeds to the right. A bug hovering above the flowers. Some superb detail to the scene and that translucency of the pate sur pate makes it even more stunning! Gold trim to the top and bottom edge as well as around the scene. Probably done by Frederick Schenk though he did not sign this piece here - sadly. One finds scenes with ladies in them a lot more often than other types like this bird scene here! The piece is in great condition without any chips, etc. The pate sur pate design has crazing to it which is only visible upon very close inspection and it displays perfectly! The vase is 8.125 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide and 4.875 inches deep. Marked with a typical pattern number for this maker in gold - 5638 as shown.
