Description: Description: Antique Chief’s Fireman’s Officer Speaking Brass 17 ½” Trumpet Beginning in the early days of the volunteer fire companies in Colonial America, there was a simple but effective tool used by the fire officer (Foreman, Engineer) to direct his assigned command. Though that tool is no longer used in active service, it is still symbolically present on every fire scene in the insignia of the modern-day chief fire officer. That tool that is now configured in the insignia of rank is the speaking trumpet. Even as it was being used as a simple but important tool, the speaking trumpet became a symbol of leadership in the early days of the American Fire Service. Details: (measurements are approximate) Used by early fire chiefs to direct vocal commands to firefighters. 17.5" x 6.5" x 6.5". This trumpet has been passed down in a generational firefighter’s family since the turn of the century.
