Description: This is a beautiful antique demitasse cup & saucer set From Royal Vienna Austria that has the blue beehive mark as well as the number 140 hand-numbered in gold on both pieces. The bottom of the saucer also hand-carved mark under the glaze that might be the number 5. The neo-classical scene perhaps depicts a maiden consoling a warrior. I've seen this exact scene on another Royal Vienna piece with the signature "Kaufmann" (Maria Anna Angelica Kaufmann), but have not been able to find the image in her gallery. No chips, nicks, cracks, or crazing. Although the condition is excellent, I want to make sure to point out that in trying to be as informative as possible, there are two things that I think disallow the "perfect" condition: 1) The bottom of the inside has a slight dusty-looking discoloration/stain; 2) There's an almost imperceptible gilt rub on handle; 3) There may be a maker's flaw on the top rim above the scene. I can feel a pinpoint depression, but the glaze and gold/gilt paint covers it.
