Description: We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our other items! This is a stunning, very large, antique parlor clock unlike any I've ever seen. Frankly, were it not for the cause listed below, it would remain in our home; no doubt about it. It is highly collectible and one of the highest quality clocks you'll ever find. It was created in "Germany" about 55 years ago for "Ethan Allen," one of the finest clock makers and furniture manufacturers in the world. The wooden case is made entirely of hardwood and carved to perfection. The top of the case is arched and beveled with several layers. The platform below the dial and the one at the bottom of the case are beveled to match. The frame on either side of the dial gives a look of pillars with scrollwork as well. There is a hinged brass bezel surrounding the dial and a convex glass crystal is inset into it; no cracks or chips that I can see. The bezel opens to allow access to the three winding arbors on the dial and for setting the correct time The center of the dial is a work of art on its own and the name, "Ethan Allen" is found just above center in their familiar calligraphic signature logo. The chapter ring has a white backdrop and features large, easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching, fancy hands to point out the time. The lower part of the clock is actually a hinged wooden door with a glass crystal featuring a colorful vine inserted into it; no cracks or chips here either. There are beautiful carvings at the top of the door and a fancy brass metal pull to open and close the door which is secured with a magnetic latch. The door opens to allow for setting the brass metal pendulum and a convenient place to store the key. The back of the clock is wood too and there is a removable wooden panel there that allows for servicing the clock as this is needed. The clock is heavy and very impressive. It measures about 27" high, about 6" deep, and about 14 1/2" wide. And it plays music too! At the quarter hour mark, the clock plays a lovely four note tune on golden metal chime rods inside the case; eight notes on the half hour; twelve at the three quarter mark and the full sixteen notes at the top of the hour. It then chimes the current number of hours, just like Big Ben in London! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and the chimes are delightful! Keep in mind, this is not a new clock and like all higher quality clocks, does require minimal service once every three years. Doing so will keep this incredible clock in good working condition for years to come. I've looked the clock over fairly well and can't find any damage or missing parts. It shows very little signs of use and also appears to have been maintained pretty well. And it's absolutely gorgeous on display! The clock comes complete as shown with a brass metal pendulum and a winding key. This is an extraordinary clock that is designed to capture the attention and imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a rare, high quality, antique German timepiece with a genuine legacy behind it.
