Description: Listed Artist Impressionist Landscape Frances H. McKay 1880-1969 Frances H. McKay is an American painter who was born in 1880 in Rockport, Maine. McKay painted bucolic New England countryside and coastal scenes.Working in the first half of the 20th century in and around the New England area. His paintings are primarily of the quaint houses, farms, and towns, many in Maine. Very little is known about this artist, but works by F.H. McKay are reported as having been exhibited at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York and PAFA 1928. This artwork is one of several pieces of art work that Frances did of Coastal Landscape Scenes. This artwork is framed and ready for hanging. The frame measures 13 3/8" tall x 11 1/4" wide. Without opening up the paper on the back I measured the opening of it to get an approx. size of 10" tall x 8 3/4" wide for the oil on board. The artwork has slipped in the frame and should be adjusted. There may be a title for this art work on the back under the paper but it was framed so nicely I decided not to open up the back. Also could use a professional cleaning as most art work that hangs in our home is exposed to the environment.ps I am guessing at the time frame, but ebay's item specifics are mandatory as they keep sending me notice to fill in the blanks! Found this info online: Terry Wallace, in his book titled, "Cappy", states that the artist was born Casper Hjalmar Emersen III and was known as Cappy from birth. In 1946, he changed his name to HJalmar Amundsen in honor of his great-uncle, explorer Roald Amundsen, who located the magnetic center of the South Pole the year his great nephew was born. Cappy used numerous pseudo-names including F.H. McKay which was typically used in waterfront scenes depicting residential homes. Several sources state different dates of death but is thought to be around 1969. Frances H. McKay's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $60 USD to $750 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork.
