This disc will provide a massive fading hook, but itβs not so fast that it canβt be controlled by less powerful players. The Firebird makes a great forehand driver and can easily handle headwinds. It reliably fades out of an anhyzer throw for a beautiful s-curve and also can cut very sharpe corners on tight wooded fairways when thrown flat and straight. The Nate Sexton Firebird is one of the most popular discs of all time, aswell as my favorite BY FAR! DreamWeaver DreamWeaver (Reviewer Elite L9, Intermediate) Apr 23 2020 4:18PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Neutral Wow is this disc legendary. I've used this disc for so many shots that really need to get around an obstacle right when it slows down. In time it makes itself go straighter and straighter but still gives me the reliable fade I am looking for. I have also used it for some serious spike hyzers over trees. I can't say it's bad for beginners, but they may love the Firebird for different reasons for lower arm speeds. It's a great all around driver that everyone should try out at some point. Nick Scott Nick Scott (Review Enthusiast, L4, Advanced) Jan 30 2020 9:42PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Neutral Most dependable disc in my bag. Accurate on hyzer lines and when you finally beat one in it's a great turnover disc that will fade back. Also the best disc for thumbers. Blaine anderson Blaine anderson (Review Participant, L2, Professional) Jan 27 2020 1:15PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Neutral The Sexton firebird is my go to over stable fairway. Has good distance with a reliable fade!! Alexander Bivolcic Alexander Bivolcic (Review Nut, L7, Intermediate) Oct 22 2019 8:01PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly The Nate Sexton firebird or SexyBird has to be one of the most famous discs I know of. This disc is insanely reliable, even on the most windy day, I know it is going to finish to the right. For the longest time I exclusively used this for forehands, it feels really nice in the hand so I can understand why Nate puts his name on it. This plastic is really the best plastic Innova makes, it has grip, it looks great, and it is VERY durable. I own many Sexton Firebirds and I don't think that is gonna change any time soon. discgolfdrew discgolfdrew (Review Participant, L2, Advanced) Sep 19 2019 1:28PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly This disc has quickly become my go-to for forehand approach shots, or a disc that I need to throw off the tee which I can throw on an anhyzer, flexing it through the fairway and then trust it will fade hard and potentially skip up to the basket. Perfect for anyone who can throw anhyzer flex-shots, or just a disc to throw into a straight headwind that you don't want to turn, what-so-ever. Loving this addition to my bag. Trent B Trent B (Review Participant, L2, Intermediate) Aug 22 2019 6:10PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Neutral I have a Sexton Firebird(2018) and a star Firebird that I bag. I will talk about both. Sexybird: this is my workhorse FH driver. It's not my longest, but the lesser stability really let's you shape shots knowing that a Firebird fade will kick in. This disc is definitely more flexible than it's brethren. Star FB: more stability, more fade, less distance. I've had more ace runs with this disc than any other. Very predictable, and not an outrageous amount of stability. On the right holes I just try to throw this one in. KeithHowe KeithHowe (Review King, L14, Advanced) Jul 10 2019 9:49AM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/3Terrible for Beginners What can I say about the Sexton Firebird that hasn't been said? It starts off straight until the high speed starts to go down then it always fades. I like this for skip shots, head winds, and when I need a reliable dumping fade at the end of my shots. Most disc golfers should probably have one of these for a utility disc. Carlin462 Carlin462 (Review Enthusiast, L4, Intermediate) Dec 19 2018 1:11PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly Only because I think everyone who plays has to throw and review a Firebird, here is mine. 1st I have the sexton 2017 tour series disc and the champion glow. The sexton is more stable than the glow. I never threw this disc, even with all the hype. I've taken some time to get to know the disc and can say it is no wonder why it is a classic. When I began playing I could never understand how anyone can get this to go anywhere but a simple hook. Over the past month, I have been working with it to get a nice flight out of it. The only reason I broke down is because I started playing disc at night and this was the easiest glow disc I could get. I also got a glow thunderbird but go with the firebird more often as it feels better in the hand and it seems to go further. If you need something overstable, there is a reason why so many of these have been made. Just give it a try. Seawax Seawax (Review Supporter, L3, Intermediate) Dec 14 2018 7:57PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Somewhat Beginner Friendly My first overstable driver was a Flick, a choice which I would love to be able to ask my former self about. After that experience, I was just glad to be able to get the Sexybird to fly straight for any period of time. However, I did soon start to wonder whether I'd ever get any more than 250 feet with a massive fade out of it. I've now decided that the low glide of this disc is for a reason: wind. This thing performs more predictably than almost anything I've ever thrown, no matter the conditions. If I need more glide and less fade, my Valkyrie works; for more glide and almost the same finish, I can turn up the speed with an X-Caliber. But for that dependable hook on restricted fairways, I trust my Firebird. This reliability also extends to overhand shots, though I now tend to throw my thumbers with less beautiful, cheaper discs. As I develop better form and more arm speed, I'm confident that this disc will respond better to my attempts at flex shots, as long as I can get the height right. The Firebird clearly has a lot to teach. ColeJonas ColeJonas (Review Supporter, L3, Professional) Dec 12 2018 4:14PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly Absolutely love the firebird, especially in the color glow plastic. Very comfortable in the hand, grippy, and very overstable. Can fight a headwind like itβs nothing, and very trustworthy on a forehand. ItsTylerYouBeezy ItsTylerYouBeezy (Review Fanatic, L6, Intermediate) Nov 26 2018 7:44AM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly i have sexton 18 that is pure gold. extremely flat and comfy very stable good grip glows really well! IGMcK IGMcK (Review Supporter, L3, Intermediate) Nov 12 2018 4:30PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly A staple. Comfortable, controllable, and reliable OS finish. Always know where it's going to finish. Every bag needs an OS control driver and this is the flag bearer. Dxsby Dxsby (Review Participant, L2, Beginner) Oct 24 2018 5:39PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Very Beginner Friendly If you don't have a Sexton Firebird you need one in your bag. Fantastic disc. tpotter4 tpotter4 (Review Nut, L7, Intermediate) Oct 18 2018 5:17PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Not Beginner Friendly The Sexton Firebird is one of the greatest discs ever created. From feel to flight, it does not disappoint one bit. The Champion Color Glow plastic feels great in the hand with the perfect amount of gumminess and stiffness. The flight is also unattainable by other discs. It flies very smooth before dumping at the end of it's flight with that predictable fade. I've had plenty of shots with it where I have a bad release and throw it right at a tree and it just cuts in front of the trees. I have never thrown a disc that dodges so many trees before. Great get out of trouble disc and for any shot that needs to hook or get a skip. Condor Condor (Review Fanatic, L6, Intermediate) Jul 30 2018 7:57PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Terrible for Beginners I have the Sexton signature Firebird and, although I hear it is less beefy than the standard mold, it is still extremely overstable for my intermediate arm. If you are a slow arm looking for utility, try options in the midrange category for more control. However, for skips and shots that require some speed on the disc, it's hard to beat the venerable Firebird. Cloud Cloud (Reader, Intermediate) Jul 23 2018 9:45AM My Flight Ratings 9/4/0/3Not Beginner Friendly The 2018 Sexton firebird is the straightest yet. I've been beating in my 2017 version for over a year now to be straight and the flight of the 2018 was identical out of the box. This is a disc that could be used almost any hole forehand or backhand on anything from spike hyzers to turnover flex shots. If you're looking for a beat in firebird flight out of a brand new disc then look no further than here. Taylor Cook Taylor Cook (Reader, Intermediate) Jul 13 2018 10:12PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Neutral On paper it seems almost too much of a meathook, after getting one (sexton) it's my favorite forehand driver and a great disc for shaping tricky lines. J.P. Ryan J.P. Ryan (Review Supporter, L3, Intermediate) Jul 12 2018 1:12PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Terrible for Beginners This is a fantastic OS fairway/utility disc. I do not throw sidearm, but anytime I need a big skip or a hard, dumping fade off the tee I reach for my 18 Sexton Firebird. It's also a great utility, get out of trouble disc when getting around an obstacle is important. It also feels great in the hand, like just about all of Innova's speed 9 drivers. Synkow Synkow (Reader, Advanced) Jul 11 2018 7:57PM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Somewhat Beginner Friendly Hands down one of my go to drivers. For me, I play a lot of my rounds RHFH flick for my drives and this is usually my go to driver for a controlled, reliable drive with distance. If I want it to fade more right at the end, I throw it flatter. If I want to maximize the distance on it, I flick it at a slight β/β angle and it provides a predictable, consistent bend to the left and finish to the right. Garrett Garrett (Review Supporter, L3, Advanced) Jun 25 2018 9:06AM My Flight Ratings 9/3/0/4Neutral I bag 3 firebirds (1 Sexton Firebird and 2 other Champion Color Glow that are more stable) and they are money for me! The reliable over stability of the firebird is great for forehands, hyzers, exaggerated flex shots, and especially overhands. I throw a lot of thumbers and with the firebird I get pin point accuracy and even great lines in the woods. The sexton firebird gives more glide and is great for flex forehands from 300-350 ft. For beginners this would be purely a utility disc whereas advanced players will find the reliable stability useful on a variety of shots.
