Description: In September 1978 Continental Air Lines was granted a Honolulu - Guam / Okinawa – Taiwan segment as the result of Civil Aeronautics Board concern with the limited service being provided by Pan American Airways to Guam, the important United States base in the western Pacific. Service was inaugurated on November 1, 1978. While there do exist a few covers postmarked in Taipei on November 1, these are not believed to have been in an authorized postal pouch.Continental Airlines and United Airlines merged in an $8.5 billion all-stock merger of equals on October 1, 2010.
