Description: DATING TO THE 1920’S THIS PIECE IS BY MARIA GALLENGA. NOTE THAT THE GOWN WAS COMPLETELY ALTERED DURING THE PERIOD AS THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A STRAIGHT FALLING FULL LENGTH GOWN WITH TRAIN BUT WAS CHANGED IN THE LATE 1920’S INTO A BEAUTIFUL RIBBON STRAP GOWN WITH PLUNGING NECKLINE AND FULL BARE BACK. THE VELVET IS RICHLY HAND STENCILLED IN MULTI TONE METALLICS ON THE PURPLE PANNE SILK VELVET ECRU LACE PANEL SNAPS CLOSED ON THE CENTER FRONT WITH LACE TRIMMING EACH SIDE OF THE BUST. RUCHED GATHERING IS ALONG EACH SIDE OF THE FRONT WAIST WITH HOOK AND EYE CLOSURES FROM WAIST DOWN TEN INCHES CENTER SEAM DETAIL RUNS FULLY DOWN THE FRONT WITH THE REAR FLOWING IN A FULL LONG TRAIN INNER WAISTLINE IS BUILT WITH A GROSGRAIN BAND AND THE INTERIOR IS LINED IN SILK THE INNER LINING IS ALSO HAND STENCILLED CONDITION: THE GOWN ITSELF IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITON. THE LACE HAS HEAVY AGE COLOR AND I PERSONALLY WOULD CONSIDER REMOVING THE LACE ENTIRELY. THE INNER LINING UNFORTUNATELY IS HEAVILY SHATTERED THROUGHOUT AND I WOULD CONSIDER REMOVING THE LINING IF THIS PIECE IS TO BE WORN. SHATTERED FRAY TO THE LINING IS SEEN FULLY THROUGHOUT. THERE ARE TWO FINGERTIP SPOTS STAINS ABOVE STENCILING ON THE REAR BACK, NOT READILY NOTED DUE TO THE HIGH SHINE AS IT BLENDS DUE TO THE STENCILING. THE VELVET IS IN EXCELLENT, STRONG, AND FULLY WEARABLE CONDITION. SUCH AN INCREDIBLE ANTIQUE HAND STENCILLED SILK VELVET GOWN BY MARIA GALLENGA.
