Description: Set of 4 BRADEX Bradford Tianex Russian Legends FAIRY TALE Collector Plates This set of 4 plates features a variety of Russian folklore as painted by various artists and each plate is signed . They were produced at Palekh Art Studios in 1988 and 1990 and measure 7.75 inches . Included in this set are these 4 themes: 1. Tsar Saltan ( Angel? at top of design) 2. Ruslan and Ludmilla (Horse) 3. Silver Hoof (Elk / Reindeer) 4. Priest and His Servant Balda (2 Men at fair) Each plate is richly detailed and hand-decorated, with a background story from Russian folklore. For example, the tale of Ruslan and Ludmilla is an 1820 heroic-epic poem by Pushkin, featuring a daring knight, a kidnapped princess, and an evil magician. Each one is in perfect condition. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The foot ring is pierced so the plate can be hung. Unfortunately, I do not have the original boxes or certificates. The plates have a very detailed explanation on the back (in Russian, or Cyrillic). At the top is the logo for Tianex and a number. There is also a Bradex No. at the bottom. The beginning of the market for Russian-made collector's plates coincided with the breakup of the Soviet Union. In 1988, the first 12 plates produced formed the series RUSSIAN LEGENDS. Manufacture was accomplished in several Soviet/Russian porcelain factories, including the historic Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, and the finished products were sold by The Bradford Exchange under the Tianex imprint. ***Condition*** In perfect condition- no damage or use.
