Description: You are purchasing a: Sheila's Wood Figurine Decor O'DONNELL'S FOLLY Charleston, South Carolina This handsome dwelling was built between 1852 aqnd 1856 by Patrick O'Donnell. O'Donnell set out to build a house for his bride-to-be that would stand forth in a area of outstanding houses. The legend has it the construction took so long, she married someone else, leaving the Irishman with a tall house with many bedrooms and no wife to fill them. O'Donnell lived there till his death in 1882, and died a bachelor. The house was later owned by Thomas Riley McGahan, a cousin of Margaret Mitchell. Mitchell was so impressed with the tales of McGahans wife Emma Fourgeaud, that she patterned "Melanie" after her. Sheila©1995 CHS55 7½" x 5" x 1" Made in U.S.A.
