Description: Tito's Communismby Josef Korbel [father of former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright] University of Denver PressFirst edition, 1951 SIGNED and inscribed by Korbel on the title page: "To our dearest [...] A.S. Lawton, for all the patience, friendship, and charm, Josef Korbel / May 3, 1951" The book includes a 3"x4" inch black and white photo of a group of presumably faculty, maybe also some students, in front of the Buchtel Bungalow on the University of Denver campus, circa early 1950s. It seems likely Josef Korbel would be in the photo, in which case he would likely be the one on the bottom left corner, or the one in glasses in the upper right corner. DU's School of International Studies is named after Korbel. Condition: Hardcover; no dust jacket, cover boards have some edge wear, spine a little faded and spine ends a bit bumped. Pages have darkened somewhat with age but remain unmarked and clean. Binding a tiny bit strained at the title page, otherwise nice and secure. The photo has very minor wear, faint section of a coffee-type ring in the corner, overall remains nice and bright. Will be shipped priority mail to insure safe delivery. wiki: "Josef Korbel (September 20, 1909 – July 18, 1977) was a Czech-American diplomat and political scientist. During his public career, he served as Czechoslovakia's ambassador to Yugoslavia and was the country's representative to the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan, serving as its chair. After settling down in the United States, Korbel became a professor of international politics at the University of Denver, where he founded the Graduate School of International Studies, which was later named after him, and served as its first dean. His daughter, Madeleine Albright, served as Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton, and he was the mentor of President George W. Bush's Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. His granddaughter, Alice P. Albright, is serving as CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation under President Joe Biden." Check out the photos to get a better idea of what you'll be getting.
