Description: If you have ever touched silk velvet from the 20s or 30s you know nothing else has or ever will compare. Like butter, it drips and falls where it should. Bias Cut and light shirring/gathering only enhances this. Some silk velvets, like this one, are almost diaphanous, feather light and bespeak an era of elegance and luxury. Late 1930s Silk Velvet Evening Dress is a stunning textile and color. Boat neck, 5 velvet covered buttons back closure, lightly puffed sleeves, shirred sleeve seams, draped bodice, side metal zipper, full flirtatious, flowing 10 feet of silk velvet skirt and hem sweep. Color? That enigmatic shade that dances between cranberry, burgundy, imperial purple, merlot, cabernet. Rich and jewel toned. Damage? One underarm was rapped and repaired with fusible patching (see photo). Several loose seams have been repaired by us.With only a few unnoticeable (if any) pin holes to note, this gown remains glorious - and in an irreplaceable textile. Dry Cleaned and steamed (from the inside only).Meant to fall and drape dramatically, and it does, this dress measures (seam to seam measurements): bust to 36, waist to 32, hips to 40, length 41, shoulder to shoulder 16, sleeve length from shoulder 12, hem sweep is a very generous 120 inches (10 feet). The boxed shipping weight is 1 pound, 2 ounces.A note regarding vintage clothing: it is rarely perfect. It has history, was, most likely, lovingly worn and cared for and endured far more years than most of us - in most cases 70 to 100 plus years. We try to detail every imperfection, but some seam separations, discoloring and stains may escape us; however we strive to repair and clean these wonderful designs from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s ( I rarely dabble in post 1970 clothing). If you want perfect, I suggest you look elsewhere for newer clothing. If you want wonderful echoes of past designs and their attention to detail, we may have items that will appeal to you. Most of our listings, if not new, are repaired or mended to the best of our abilities and noted within the description. Most vintage items are professionally dry cleaned or laundered by an eco-friendly green on premises cleaner. As a result, listings prices often reflect this worthwhile investment in these garments. Their history warrants nothing less. Combining shipping charges is always our pleasure. With multiple wins or purchases, please await an invoice reflecting your discounted shipping.
