Description: For sale is a vintage Chinese soapstone carving of a phoenix (bird) and flowers on an ornately carved flower-pot base. It is in excellent/pristine condition - no chips, cracks or repairs. Very nice quality with stunning intricate details. This hand-made delicately finished soapstone carving is about 6" tall, 4" wide and 3.5" deep (including the base). This reddish tint of the stone is a unique feature of this carving. The naturally reddish markings/tint in the stone enhance the uniqueness of this artwork. I bought this souvenir artwork from a local artist during one of my visits to China in the early 1980's when China was just opening up to the world. It wasn't a mass produced item and it's unlikely you'll ever find another item like this. This piece of artwork had been displayed after I returned home for a brief period.
